Lloyd & The Fellas Fledgling Biography:
Lloyd & the Fellas met at folk festivals, in sister circles and among gardens in Michigan, assembling live in February ‘09. The Fellas are a fun time: great for little ones, young hip things, middlers and elders alike. These folks are the ringleaders of a journey through varied sounds: jumpy banjo-y joyful songs; tunes for healing; aching songs that swell with unhurried intensity.
Songwriter, pianist, vocalist and guitarist Elisabeth Pixley Fink (Lloyd!) grew up studying classical piano and making up songs with her family. Fiddler, vocalist and mandolinist Samantha Cooper (Slam!) grew up around Ann Arbor with her dad’s jazz licks, the Suzuki method and a family tradition of kitchen music. Ira Cohen (Iree!) is a songwriter, vocalist, banjoist, and guitarist who tagged along with his folks to old time festivals and Sacred Harp singings around Kalamazoo. Matt Hollander (MattFella) is somewhat of a found drummer, creating beats in seemingly unmusical times on backs, with fighting sticks & even the old drum-set.
Lloyd & the Fellas are born of different musical families. Now they come together to start each day with a song, aiming to conjour the creative in all who participate. Bring your voice, hands, feet, jowls, and drawing pad. And remember: “rock it, but don’t rush it.”
